A cold and misty morning greeted runners at Holmebrook Valley Country Park for todays events but that didn’t stop 5k winner, Matlock’s Luke Beresford posting a time of 17:23, a new course record, 10 seconds quicker than the old one set by Bobby Brailsford in February 2023. Debutant Sam Wilkinson came second in a respectable 19:29 with James Bradbury third in 20:07.
We had two males with improved times Josh Webster and James Bradbury, both 27 seconds quicker than their previous Holmebrook times. Josh collected a most improved trophy but unfortunately we didn’t identify that James had improved until after the presentation. Our apologies to James, but we will include him in the trophy presentation next month.
North Derbyshire’s Rebecca Pickering finished first female in 23:51, followed by two Cannon Events runners who both set new PB times. The ever improving Allison Wilbourn finished second in 27:40 followed by Kelly Matkin 29:00.
Four Cannon’s members received most improved trophies with Allison and Kelly joined by Michelle Bower and Linda Longmore. Allison and Michelle improved their times by almost 2 minutes, Kelly by almost a minute and Linda 19 seconds. Well done ladies.
We only had five finishers in the 1500m and Elliot Avery was a clear winner in 7:45. It was very close for second and third with two Cannon Events members, Olivia Rhodes 8.54 just one second ahead of Johanna Taylor. Unfortunately Olivia Avery didn’t finish.
Finally a mention for Tracy Gregory who made the journey from Buxton worthwhile finishing both the 1500m and the 5k. If anyone wants to run both in the future you are very welcome to, just enter either the 5k or 1500m and run both races.
As usual a big thank you to all the marshals and helpers standing about in the cold, we couldn’t put on the event without you. Hope to see some of those who ran today next month on Sunday 21 April, one week earlier than usual as we didn’t want to clash with Dronfield 10k.
