It was a cold start at Holmebrook Valley Country Park for the April event but the sun soon arrived to help keep spectators and marshals warm. Conditions underfoot must have been good though, because we had several course PB’s.
First home was Gavin Newhouse, a previous winner, his time of 20:13 just over 30 seconds slower than his best. Almost a minute later Josh Webster from host club CERC finished second in 21:12, four seconds off his course PB and followed by club mate Katrina Prior in 22:05, first female home and yet another course PB.
Second and third female saw two more Cannon’s runners finish with Emma Rhodes 25:32 and Allison Wilbourn 27:38.
We had several trophy winners for improved times this month. Toby Collard (CERC) ran 30 seconds quicker than his course PB, Dave Hicken (NDRC) was 29 seconds quicker and Charlie Rogers (CERC) 21 seconds quicker. They all took home a trophy to hold for a month along with four females, Claire Barley (NDRC) improved by 1 minute 43 seconds, Katrina Prior was 28 seconds quicker, Emma Baines (CERC) 26 seconds quicker and finally Allison Wilbourn who seems to take home a trophy every month, this time just 2 seconds quicker.
We had seven finishers in the 1500m and a Cannon’s 1, 2, 3 with new member, Jacob Hargreaves first home in 6:34, Olivia Rhodes second 7:06 and Lilly Rogers third 7:36, five seconds off her previous best time. Olivia was 45 seconds quicker then her best and set a new female record for the 1500m course. She also took home a most improved trophy, along with Dylan Josephs who improved by 42 seconds and Johanna Taylor, improved by 15 seconds.
A reminder that you become eligible for a most improved trophy on your third race.
Thank you to everyone who turned up to run, marshal or help. It is a small event but we do hope you find it a very friendly one and want to come back again in the future. Next month it is on Sunday 26 May, back to our usual last Sunday of the month.
